Over the Top – Road Cycling Event- First Weekend in October
Mark your calendar now - October 5, 6 & 7th, 2012
The first annual Over the Top ride is now history! This gorgeous fall ride along the Aufderheide between Oakridge and Blue River was highlighted by a great group of cyclists, wonderful weather, and food that was, like the ride itself, ‘over the top.’
Watch this spot for news about our plans for 2012.
Thank you to our faithful and hard working ride marshalls, the local folks staffing the aid stations, the EMT’s from Oakridge Fire Department for being our safety net, and Willie Weir for participating in the ride by day and entertaining us in the evening. Many other local people were instrumental in making this ride possible by helping with logistics. Roadside snacks, lunches and dinners in Oakridge were crafted by Stacey Sullivan of Comfort Catering in Eugene. The photos above are courtesy of Willie Weir.
What we included in 2011….
Lodging Friday and Saturday night – Dinner Friday and Saturday night – Breakfast & Lunch on Saturday and Sunday – Snacks & Beverages en route Sag, Luggage Transfer, Mechanical Support – After Ride Party & Guest Speaker, Willie Weir, columnist for Adventure Cyclist Magazine. Willie will bring to life stories from his latest book, Travels with Willie – tales that will have you chuckling and leave you wanting to chuck your day job and hit the road! He is a traveling commentator for public radio station KUOW in Seattle and an ex-professional actor with a passion for bicycle travel. He and his wife gave up their car six years ago–a wise and, yes, frugal decision. He will speak on Friday and Saturday evening in Oakridge.
Logistics:
Half of the riders will start in Oakridge and go north on Road 19. The other half will start in Blue River, going south bound.
