Focus on rockin’ tunes by Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Elvis and more that will enable you to play way cool guitar-like riffs on your uke. Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Swing Ukulele – James Clem

1920′s and ’30′s up tempo vocal tunes are ideal for the uke. Learn the smokin’ Django Hot Club rhythm and how to add intros and solos to your songs. Tips on learning from recordings and you will get plenty of handouts to take home and work on. Show your friends who is boss at the next jam session! Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Blues Guitar Basics – James Clem

James is one of the world’s premier blues guitarists and this class will be geared to beginning and intermediate players on how to approach this “gut bucket” style. While lots of blues songs are only three chords, the blues masters used unique techniques of damping, quirky rhythms and tunings to get their sound. Even if you do not have a guitar at the festival, you will still receive handouts and advice to study when you get back home. Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Ukulele Ensemble Skills – Brook Adams

Learn to play in small groups; duos, trios and beyond. Learn how to make a groove. Learn how to arrange a song. Learn how to make intros and endings.

And what about jam sessions? Are there tricks to having more fun with that? Yes there are! And I’m gonna show you. So try Ukulele Ensemble Skills and Rock That Uke! I’ll bring a few (not too many) handouts and we’ll have a rave-up.  Level 2-3.

Doo Wop for Singers and Strummers – Patty Sage and Denise Hinz

This is going to be a great class for folks who love to sing fun songs from the Sixties.  The Doo Wop cycle in a couple of keys will be explored.  We will show you how 4-5 chords (C-Am-F-G7 or F-Dm-Bb-C7) form the basis of many popular #1 hits. Participants will become fluent in DWSL-(Doo Wop as a Second Language) and have an opportunity to perform songs with classmates. Level 2
