Over the Top – A Great Time Was Had By All!
Riders started from either end of the Aufderheide as planned on Saturday morning, October 1st. Aid stations at Cougar Crossing and Kiahanie campgrounds were well stocked with delicious homemade snacks, no packaged energy bars. The weather was cool, partly sunny, and no rain! Lunch at Box Canyon featured mini BLT’s, veggie sandwiches, lentil salad, brownies, and other goodies. The first riders arrived in Oakridge between 2:30 and 3 PM. The group lounged on the patio and enjoyed Ninkasi, sunshine and good company. Dinner was a substantial spread with lasagna as a center piece, followed by dense chocolate cake. Willie Weir gave an amazing performance (he retired from acting) as his cycling adventure stories unfolded. After a night’s rest, cyclists rode back to their starting points on Sunday, enjoying dramatic sun breaks at the summit, Box Canyon. Next year’s ride is tentatively scheduled for October 5,6,7, 2012, join us!
